Varstaff is looking for an Avionics Technician V.

About the Job

As a Level 5 Avionics Technician, you will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Aircraft ISR integrations and mentor junior technicians. You will perform and oversee avionics maintenance according to FCC, FAA, and company regulations. Responsibilities include leading, teaching, and performing the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of avionics components, as well as maintaining test equipment, tools, and manuals.

This position demands hands-on proficiency with harness assembly and aircraft modification (harness routing, connector termination, ring-out, and functional testing) to ensure proper integration and performance of complex aircraft systems.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate hands-on experience terminating the following connector types:

  • COAX

  • CIR-MIL

  • RJ-45 Network

  • D-SUB

What We’re Looking For

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent plus 15+ years of relevant experience (Higher degrees or equivalent experience can replace this requirement).

Skills & Requirements

  • Must-Have:

    • Must have your own tools in good working order.

    • Ability to interpret complex technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals, and publications; ability to route wires per technical drawings.

    • Proficiency in avionics installation tooling, wiring, wiring repair, wiring installation, soldering, and crimping techniques.

    • Basic understanding of spectrometer, oscilloscope, and/or Pitot static equipment.

  • Nice-to-Have:

    • Prior experience in a Lead role (mentoring, training, guiding, and inspecting subordinates' work).

    • Familiarity with FCC regulations and FCC GROL (General Radiotelephone Operator License).

    • Experience with TRIAX, QUADRAX, Fiber-Optic assemblies, and El Ochito RF Connectors.

    • Background in Aerospace/Defense, the US Department of Defense (DoD), or US Military.

    • Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance (may be required).

Physical Requirements & Working Environment

  • Physical:

    • Frequently walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs/steps, and repeating hand, arm, and finger motions (requiring fine dexterity).

    • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs.

  • Sensory: Strong vision (close, distance, depth perception, color differentiation) and hearing (discerning tones/volumes) required.

  • Environment: Frequent exposure to outdoor weather elements, fumes, hazardous chemicals/materials, and loud noise environments.

  • Safety Sensitive: Responsible for safety/security of people or property, handling/inspecting equipment, vehicles, or aviation-related machinery.
